“My goal is to train someone to be independent and self-reliant in exercising.”

1999: B.S. in Exercise Science, emphasis in biology, UC Davis
2000 – 2003: Varsity and J.V. coach, River City Rowing Club Juniors
2005: Masters in Education
2004 – 2007: J.V. softball coach, Vanden High School

I started working out seriously in 1993. During college, I rowed on the UC Davis crew team for four years. During these years I began training for triathlons as a form of cross-training for crew. I have since completed the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon and biathlon, the Half-Vineman, and the Triathlon at Pacific Grove five times. I have also run the Rock and Roll Marathon in San Diego once and the Big Sur Marathon three times. The purpose of these events, other than the benefit of cross-training, was not to win but rather for the experience—doing something that I wasn’t sure I could finish.

As a trainer, my goal is to train someone to be independent and self-reliant in exercising, to take what they learn from our sessions and apply it in a realistic manner to their daily life. I can offer a background in a variety of activities as well as 15 years of training in a gym to help. I’ve worked with a variety of coaches, trainers and athletes; I’ve used that variety of experience as the basis of my training.

I have always had a passion for fitness, since my swimming career started at age 4. I was a competitive swimmer for 16 years. Throughout college I remained active and always found fitness and nutrition as a vital part to my lifestyle. However, in 1998, I was diagnosed with TMJ Disorder which caused several structural changes in my body. These changes challenged me to alter my current fitness routine and find alternative ways to be active. My education grew and grew over the past 12 years and I look forward to working with you to open you mind to a new idea of “fitness” and obtaining the most from your nutritional intake to change the structure of your body.

What if there was one particular environmental factor that has become dramatically less pronounced in the past century?

What if it were shown that increasing this environmental factor could prevent most chronic diseases before they start and improve mental health and sense of well being while costing nothing in return? This environmental factor is called physical activity. The human body is highly adapted for a physically active lifestyle and it fails to function properly to maintain health when there is a loss of adequate amounts of physical activity. I am here to train and motivate those who are willing to set new fitness goals and achieve them. The hard part is over; you made the decision to change, now comes the fun part. I can guarantee that you will enjoy the empowering feeling of exercise and its benefits. You will be able to take your increased energy level and confidence with you wherever you go.
